How to choose a gym.
You may live in an area that has a great selection of gyms for you to choose from, if this is the case, then you are lucky! There are lots of people not as fortunate, maybe they only have 1 choice or in that fact no choice at all. Should you have a choice, there are a few things you can do to ensure you find the right gym for you.
1.Ring the gym and ask for a tour if possible. Majority of gyms will provide this service to you usually free. This will gives you an opportunity to see past the front counter without having to join first. See what the equipment is like, the quality etc, the locker room, and the showers.
2.See if there are any special services that are offered there, maybe a of a personal trainer, a nutritionist, and a massage therapist. Many gyms do not provide this, but these are services you will need of you can find them, and if you can get them all in one place more the better.
3. Take a good close look at the equipment that they have. Is there plenty to go around, or are there long lines? Is the equipment in good shape? Is it clean? Go at different times of the day to see when is the busiest time and when you would prefer to go.
4.Look at the entire gym. Is it clean and looked after? Are the showers cleaned regularly? Do other members wipe the machines after using them, or walk away leaving their sweat behind?
5. Where exactly is the gym located? Is it convenient for you or hours away? Is it close to your home, job, or school? Last thing you need after a hard work out is an hours trip home before you can rest properly.
6. When does the gym open and close? Do the hours work for your best schedule? Some gyms in larger cities are open 24 hours, but not all of them. Are they open on weekends and holidays? Make sure that you find out.
7. Is the gym for men and women, and if it is, does it matter to you? Some women prefer female only gyms or times when women can work out without men, while some men prefer male-only gyms. To some people is does not matter either way. Make sure that you feel comfortable whatever the situation.
8. Do the staff members and the gym have certification? Are they trained to spot you and to help you train? Can they deal with injuries should they occur on the premises? Are there different types of classes available, for example aerobics, yoga, swimming?
9. Should you need child care at the gym, do they have proper facilities with trained staff? Not all gyms offer it, but some do. Do make sure that the staff looking after your children are suitably qualified to do so.
10. Lastly how much is the membership fee? Does it fit into your budget? Some gyms are quite affordable and very nice and comfortable, while others are extremely expensive. Find out how much it costs, when fees are due, and how they are to be paid. Also inquire about any extra or hidden fees that may exist.
