Aimpoint's Hunter Range Of Red Dot Sights
Since their advent in 1975, Aimpoint's parallax-free red dot sights have built up a huge following in Europe that is now spreading across the Atlantic. Building on the success of their 9000 series, Aimpoint decided to bring out a new generation of Hunting sights.
The Aimpoint Hunter series sights, as with all Aimpoints, offer Parallax free operation enabling the user to use differing shooting stances without affecting the point of impact of the group. You don't have to center the dot in the rear of the tube. Situational awareness is unimpedes as you shoot with both eyes open. Aimpoints are often used for wing shooting in the Nordic countries.
The sights are utterly rugged, waterproof and coated against fog and rain. The Aimpoint Hunter is tested to survive the most powerful magnum calibres in light rifles and revolvers and can withstand the vibration of semiautomatic weapons. The sights are machined from billets of 6000 series aluminoum with a hard anodized satin black finish to look attractive without glinting.
The Hunter series use the CR2032 batter rather than the old N series and get 50,000 hours of continuous operation at a setting of 7 - or more than five years of continuous use. The Hunter has coarser, half inch clicks but this hardly matters on a sight intended for close to medium range use. The adjustment is via reversible adjuster tools that screw in to the adjuster sockets on the objective housing for safe storage.
The main difference from the 9000 series is that 12, rather than 9 day brightness settings are available with the Aimpoint Hunter and these are adjustable via two easily manipulated and silent buttons on the top of the sight rather than the 9000's twist knob. This is a much more intuitive system that lends itself to operation wearing gloves. 30 and 34mm versions are available, the 34mm offering slightly greater light gathering and transmission with its 47mm objective vs the 43mm on the 30mm units. You can have either tube diameter in short or long configuration. The short fits short and medium bolt actions and the long, long actions.
They are designed to look 'right' on both modern and traditionally styled hunting rifles. Aimpoint include Weaver-style rings with Torx screws, lens caps and a battery. The H30S, H30L, H34S and H34L make up the Aimpoint Hunter range. The H stands for 'Hunter', the 3x for the tube diameter and the S and L for short and long. The Aimpoint Hunter H34L for example is a Hunter 34mm tube sight designed for long action rifles and shotguns.
